In Memory of Duane Allman

On October 29, 1971, Duane Allman – lead guitarist and spiritual general of the Allman Brothers Band – died in a motorcycle accident in his band's adopted hometown of Macon, Georgia. He was 24. Allman's passing and the loss a year later of bassist Berry Oakley, on his bike in a collision with a bus near the site where Allman crashed, marked the end of the group's first prime time – the Allmans had recently issued their landmark third album, At Fillmore East – but not the story. Altamont free concert: 1969

“At Woodstock you had your acid, pot, ’shrooms and peyote, you know—soft fuzzy stuff,” Dodge explains. “But Altamont demanded a slightly ruder approach. I mean, consider how each handled its security. Woodstock had Wavy Gravy clowning around and ladling up oatmeal, whereas at Altamont it was Hell’s Angels roaring through the crowd on thunder machines.” Dodge pauses, fiddling with what appears to be a dark shrunken head the size of a jumbo egg. “The Angels,’ he continues, ‘they’re all sky high on Methedrine, swinging leaded pool cues, whipping out shanks and downing a truckload of beer. Aerosmith to replace Tyler




It appears the members of Aerosmith have had enough and they are now looking to replace Steven Tyler with “somebody who the fans might recognize.”

Video Vault: Strawberry Fields Forever




As Wikipedia tells us...

Strawberry Field was the name of a Salvation Army Children's Home just around the corner from Lennon's boyhood home in the Woolton suburb of Liverpool. Lennon and his childhood friends Pete Shotton and Ivan Vaughan used to play in the trees behind the home. One of Lennon's childhood treats was the garden party held each summer on the grounds of Strawberry Field. Lennon's Aunt Mimi recalled: "As soon as we could hear the Salvation Army band starting, John would jump up and down shouting, 'Mimi, come on. We're going to be late.'" Read more
